Email

Every vessel receives its own Email address and is connected to the internet via the Townsville Radio mail server, thus ensuring continuous communication. Email with attachments up to 500kB can be forwarded. A spam filter blocks unwanted Email and a virus scanner prevents the reception of undesirable messages and subsequent damage to the computer on board. Special data filters increase the efficiency and speed of transmissions. All data transmitted over the short wave segment is coded. Special additional cipher techniques can naturally be employed to increase data security.

Email to Fax Gateway

Vessels can forward messages to any fax machine by using the Email to fax service. A fax's status will be transmitted to the sender.

Tracking

The vessel's position data is transmitted automatically with every connection. This information can be forwarded on request to tracking services such as Purplefinder, Fleettracker or Transas Marine.

Weather Service and Information

The latest weather reports, weather charts, frequency lists, area coverage and other important (downloadable) information is store on the GLN web site. All weather data is available free of charge.
